This 1 day course will walk students through some of the basics of fold forming, starting with the simplest of shapes and forms, progressing to more complex techniques, using both hammering and other mechanical means.
Fold forming was developed in the 1980’s by Charles Lewton-Brain. It folds sheet metal and compresses either the fold or open edge, allowing the metal to move as it wishes. The resultant forms are organic and flowing in nature.
Participants will be shown the basic principles of folding, stretching and opening copper pieces , before exploring how variations in shape and hammering can change the end result. As their confidence grows during the session, they will learn to increase the number and complexity of their folding. By the end of the day they will have explored some of the beautiful forms possible and ideally have at least one piece of jewellery to take home.
